A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
