New Year Revelers Advised to Dress Warmly with Wintry Weather Forecast Across the UK
Forecasters are reporting a frosty start to the new year, with snowfall expected over large parts of the UK. Celebrants are advised to wrap up as bitterly cold temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Celebrations Proceed Amid Forecasts
Edinburgh's iconic Hogmanay celebrations are set to take place, unlike last year's postponement. This proceeds amid yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve night for those out celebrating, so extra layers will be needed," said the weather service.
Displays Under Clear but Chilly Skies

Broad Snow Warnings for Friday
Heading into Friday, advisories have been issued across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Set to Plummet Further
As 2026 begins, it will be "cold regardless of where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are set to drop further as wintry showers and strong winds are likely to hit the north of the country.
Around 10cm of snow could accumulate to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Medical Advisories Issued
In addition, amber-level health advisories have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with temperatures expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities stated this signified the weather was likely to lead to major effects across medical and care provision. This involves a likely increase in the mortality rate among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
