The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
